We’re proud of the technical and electrical proficiency that we demonstrate on each task here at Castle Control. So, in order to give you better insight into the ways in which we operate – and how we make those operations successful – we thought we’d show you some of our favourite projects:
Manufacturing Vessel – Jacket Service Controls
Giusti Manufacturing Vessel Heating & Cooling control system successfully completes Site Acceptance Tests for a local pharmaceutical manufacturer in Nottingham.
The existing control system had been found to be unreliable. Certain new products required tighter tolerances than the vessel could deliver. Over time the existing tolerances have become harder and harder to achieve.
We were challenged to provide a system that could keep within a tolerance of +/- 1.5 DegC. This was achieved using Allen Bradley Ethernet IP architecture between the following devices:
- Control Logix PLC
- Point IO – RTD, D-A & Digital IO
- PanelView 7 HMI – The system leverages Rockwell Automation PlantPax add-on’s & faceplates
- SMC EX260 Ethernet/IP Gateway and valve station
- A West limit controller was used for hardwired high temperature cut-off.
Finally a Micro Epsilon IR Camera was fitted. The control system shows two traces on the HMI. The first trace being the RTD mounted at the base of the vessel, the second trace being the IR camera mounted topside looking down onto the product. This highlights any thermal transfer issues during the process.

Wash bay control system successfully completes Factory Acceptance Tests for a local pharmaceutical manufacturer in Nottingham.
The system safely allocates and dispenses pre-determined quantities of CIP water to the wash bay, only once the predetermined temperature and pressure criteria are achieved.
To achieve this, an Allen Bradley Safety PLC was used in conjunction with safe IO, Guard Master 440G-LZ locking solenoids & SMC VP544 safety valves.
The system leverages Rockwell Automation PlantPax add-on’s & faceplates.

Pie line upgrade
We are pleased to share one of our recent projects, bringing an obsolete pie manufacturing line to a maintainable and serviceable condition.
All electrical and control equipment was stripped and retrofitted into existing integrated control panel enclosures. New Allen Bradley PLC, Servos, HMI and switchgear equipment, coupled with new software was installed and commissioned in 10 working days. This work was completed on time and within budget.
The upgraded control system added increased reliability, functionality and the ability for continuous improvement.
